Sub: Request for financial assistance to Dr Birendra Kumar Bhattacharyya Memorial Trust.

Kindly allow me the privilege of approaching you with the following appeal.

This trust named after the great literary luminary of Assam to Late Dr. Birendra Kumar Bhattacharyya, aims to perpetuate the glory of his creations in the field of Assamese literature. You will agree that the creative contribution of one of Dr. Bhattacharyya's like add to cultural backdrop of any community and other goes to add to the luster of national scenery.

Dr. Bhattacharyya gave his all through his non-stop writings till his death. His writing covered almost all the genres of literature, naming, short stories, poems, novels, essays, plays, literary, criticism, biographies. He wrote mainly in Assamese, but it spread into other Indian languages, besides, English mostly through translation and some originally in English.

He was the editor of several literary journals; the most celebrated one was "Ramdhanu", which remains as heralding an era called Ramdhanu Jug.

His literary achievements brought him laurels in the form of prestigious awards like the Sahitya Akademy, Jnanpeeth, Bidhan Chandra Roy award and some other from the national arena. He was elected President of Sahitya Akademy for the 1988-93 term, after a five year terms as its vice-President. He chaired the prestigious Ram Manahor Lohia Chair of the Kurukshetra University. He was President of the Asom Sahitya Sabha in the Golden Jubilee year 1983.

These are but all the decoration he received. He, however is remembered for his literary creations that brought him instant recognisation and popularity.

This trust now has taken up an ambitious plan to:

1. To publish and preserve all his literary works.
2. To construct a reference library in order to preserve his literary collections for the use of the public / students.
3. To have an yearly oration programme in his memory.
4. To award scholarships, awards to students or Institutions for excellence in journalism and literature etc.
5. Also to carry out other charitable social activities.

Besides carrying out the above works we feel that a permanent bronze statue should be made and placed in some good locality of Guwahati.All these works would require a huge sum of money and the trust alone cannot complete these tasks.Therefore we request you to kindly help us by financial assistance or by taking up some of the projects.
